Within the MMM: The Hypothesis of Paul Bérenger's Departure from the Executive Gains Ground

The meeting of the Political Bureau (BP) of the Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM), held Monday evening at the party's headquarters in Rose-Hill, has reignited questions about Paul Bérenger's future in the government.

The Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the MMM revisited comments he made during his press conference after the central committee meeting on Saturday.

According to several attendees, he was more explicit about his weariness regarding the management of certain issues. However, he did not announce any formal decision.

Relations with Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam were also discussed. The two men exchanged brief greetings on Sunday during the International Women's Rights Day ceremony in Côte-d'Or. A phone call between the head of government and his deputy took place on Monday morning, but it did not lead to an in-depth political discussion.

At the MMM leadership, there is a desire to wait until the end of the Independence celebrations before considering the next steps. Uncertainty remains regarding the future of the governmental coalition.
