Parliament: Adrien Duval Challenges the Seating Arrangement of Three MMM MPs
The issue of the seating arrangement in the National Assembly is taking a new turn.
The opposition whip, Adrien Duval, questions the presence of three members of the MMM - Paul Bérenger, Joanna Bérenger, and Chetan Baboolall - on the opposition benches.
According to him, these parliamentarians cannot sit behind the opposition leader while retaining their status within their party.
In a letter addressed to the Speaker, Shirin Aumeeruddy-Cziffra, on Monday, Adrien Duval argues that such an arrangement would not only be irregular but also incompatible with constitutional principles.
He mentions a risk of institutional confusion that could weaken collective responsibility and disrupt the proper functioning of Parliament.
Two options are proposed: either these parliamentarians break ties with their party to sit as independents and formally join the opposition, or they retain their seats alongside the majority.
In the absence of clarification, the opposition whip warns that he may raise the issue at the next parliamentary session scheduled for this Tuesday.
