National Assembly: Adrien Duval Opposes the Seating Plan of the Three MMM Deputies
On the eve of the parliamentary session scheduled for April 7, Adrien Duval, in his role as Opposition Whip, sent a letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Shirin Aumeeruddy-Cziffra, to contest the seating arrangement of deputies Paul Bérenger, Joanna Bérenger, and Chetan Baboolall. "My concern specifically relates to the proposed new seating arrangements for these members, which would place them on the Opposition side, behind the Leader of the Opposition and myself, while they remain, respectively, Leader and Members of the MMM," the letter states.
Adrien Duval asserts that "such a situation is not only irregular, but it is unconstitutional." He argues that the concerned elected officials must either "resign from their party to sit as independents, officially join the opposition, or honor their political mandate and sit with their party on the government benches." In his letter, Adrien Duval adds that if necessary, he reserves the right to raise this issue as a "point of order" during tomorrow's session of the National Assembly.
