Jocelyn Chan Low: "The Situation Is Likely to Be Difficult"

Jocelyn Chan Low emphasizes the need for caution regarding a situation that remains "unstable and unpredictable" on the geopolitical front. The political observer and historian asserts that the ongoing tensions in the Middle East are a crucial factor for the Mauritian economy. "There is a ceasefire, but the war is not over. Iran will always have the final say. We saw this after Israel decided to launch a new strike. The strait is closed again, which indicates that hostilities are far from over," he explains.

According to him, the maneuvering space for major powers remains limited, contributing to a climate of uncertainty. "The United States has no real leeway in this matter. The situation for Mauritius is becoming more complicated," he continues. While he notes a slight stabilization in oil prices in recent days, Jocelyn Chan Low warns of a rapid market shift. "Indeed, it seems that the price of oil has stabilized, but for how long? The Middle East is in a volatile phase. Everything can change, and nothing assures us that the price of oil won't exceed $100," he points out.

For him, the effects of this crisis are already being felt in Mauritius and could intensify in the coming days. "Mauritius is already experiencing the effects, and the situation is likely to become more difficult in the next few days," he concludes.
