Blockage at Mare-Chicose: Ongoing Negotiations Between Sotravic/Strata and Truck Drivers

The Ministry of Environment and Solid Waste Management has responded to the ongoing dispute between the operator Sotravic/Strata and contract truck drivers responsible for transporting wastewater to treatment centers. This situation has disrupted operations at the Mare-Chicose waste disposal site since Friday morning, April 17.

In a statement, the ministry indicated that it is closely monitoring the situation in collaboration with the operator. Negotiations are currently underway between Sotravic/Strata and the truck drivers to allow operations to resume as soon as possible.

The ministry also noted that a complaint was filed at the Cent-Gaulettes police station due to the obstruction of access routes to the disposal center. The management contract for the site was awarded to the joint venture Sotravic/Strata on June 28, 2024.

This morning, truck drivers working under contract with Sotravic/Strata blocked access to the Mare-Chicose site. They are protesting overdue payments and tensions related to the organization of their operations, which has led to a suspension of wastewater transport and blocked access to the disposal center.
