Mgr Jean Michaël Durhône Pays Tribute to Ras Natty Baby

The Bishop of Port Louis, Mgr Jean Michaël Durhône, paid tribute this Friday to Ras Natty Baby, praising his talent, cultural heritage, and the impact of his music on an entire generation.

Below is his message in full:

MESSAGE FOR THE FUNERAL OF RAS NATTY BABY

In the name of the Catholic Church, I express my condolences to the family of Ras Natty Baby: his wife, children, and relatives.

God gave Ras Natty Baby a special talent. Through his music and his health, he touched the hearts of many people.

Today, at the Church of St. Heart of Mary, Petite Rivière, we have come to thank God for the wonders He has performed in the life of Ras Natty Baby. We ask God to forgive him for his weaknesses and sins, and we ask the living and resurrected Jesus to grant him the joy of reuniting with his Lord.

Ras Natty Baby was born, lived, worked, rejoiced. He fell ill, suffered, faced death... and he resurrected.

He took the same path that Jesus, the Son of God, took: born on Earth, growing up, working, loving us, suffering on the cross, dying, and resurrecting.

This is our hope for Ras Natty Baby and for each of us.

May Jesus give us the strength not to forget the cultural heritage that Ras Natty Baby has given our country, to continue building unity and solidarity.

Thank you.

Mgr Jean Michaël DURHÔNE

Bishop of the Diocese of Port Louis.
