The repatriation of Ras Natty Baby's remains scheduled for Thursday, April 30

The body of Joseph Nicolas Emilien, better known as Ras Natty Baby, will arrive in Mauritius this Thursday, April 30, at 2 PM. The announcement was made by his children, Salem and Marga, via a video shared on social media. A public tribute is scheduled for the following day in Petite-Rivière.

Upon arrival at the airport, the remains will be handled by Élie & Sons funeral services. The convoy will then head to the family home located at Marina Lane, Allée Tamarin, in Richelieu, where a wake will be held.

On Friday, May 1, a solemn tribute will take place on the football field in Petite-Rivière. The public is invited to pay their last respects to the artist's memory. Regarding the funeral arrangements, Salem and Marga Emilien stated that the final schedule will be communicated later to finalize the organization under the best conditions.

A relief after uncertainty

In their video message, the artist's children shared the ordeal they have been going through in recent days. They explained that they faced significant distress over the repatriation procedures: "We were in the unknown; we didn’t know how to repatriate our father’s body or what steps to take. We were not at ease," they confessed.

It was only after receiving support from authorities that the situation was resolved. "Once we got the call from the government, we felt relieved. This is what allows us today to confirm the date of arrival of the body in Mauritius," they added.

The loss of a seggae figure

Ras Natty Baby passed away on Sunday, April 26, at Park Hospital in Delhi, India. He had been admitted for a complex heart procedure, but post-operative complications proved fatal.

A prominent figure in local music, Joseph Nicolas Emilien leaves behind a tremendous legacy. A pioneer of seggae alongside Kaya, he has made a significant impact on the cultural history of Mauritius through his committed lyrics and artistic identity.
