Dr. Farhad Aumeer Calls for Greater Transparency Regarding Overseas Medical Care

The controversy surrounding the repatriation of the body of singer Ras Natty Baby has prompted a plea from Labour Party MP Dr. Farhad Aumeer: any organization, including government entities, responsible for sending patients abroad must conduct a thorough audit covering all expenses and administrative procedures.

At the center of the debate is the OMCA (Overseas Medical Care Assistance Ltd) Foundation, which claims to have provided medical and administrative support for the artist since his arrival in India, including issuing a guarantee of care. The organization vehemently denies having refused to pay the hospital fees and is considering legal action following a Facebook post by the Minister of Health.

In this post, Anil Bachoo announced that the government would cover all of the artist's medical expenses abroad, citing the OMCA Foundation's refusal to settle the hospital bill, despite public fundraising efforts organized for this purpose.

In light of this situation, the state has opted to intervene directly to facilitate the prompt repatriation of the body, justifying this decision by highlighting Ras Natty Baby's remarkable contribution to Mauritian culture.
