Reward Money Case: SP Ashik Jagai Granted Bail

On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) did not oppose the bail application for Superintendent of Police Ashik Jagai at the Port-Louis court.
Magistrate Prashant Bissoon imposed several conditions. SP Ashik Jagai must provide three sureties of Rs 500,000 each via bank cheque and sign a debt acknowledgment for Rs 2.5 million. He is also prohibited from interfering with witnesses in this case. Additionally, he must inform the FCC of his new phone number.
For context, 57-year-old SP Ashik Jagai, residing in Vallée-des-Prêtres, faces three provisional charges of "public official using his office for gratification." These offenses allegedly occurred between November 24, 2022, and September 2024 in Port-Louis.
