Released on Three Bail Bonds in the 'Reward Money' Case: SP Ashik Jagai Expected in Court on January 21, 2026

The former head of the now-defunct Police Headquarters Special Striking Team (PHQ SST), Superintendent of Police Ashik Jagai, was released on bail on Tuesday, September 2. However, he is required to appear again in the Port Louis Court on January 21, 2026.

The Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) did not object to his release, and Magistrate Prashant Bissoon set several conditions for this release. SP Jagai must provide three bail bonds of Rs 500,000 each, via cheque, and sign a debt acknowledgment amounting to Rs 2.5 million.

Among the imposed conditions, he is prohibited from contacting the witnesses involved in this case. He will also have to provide his new phone number to the FCC.

For context, Ashik Jagai, 57 years old and residing in Vallée-des-Prêtres, faces three provisional charges for "an official abusing his position for personal gain." The alleged offenses occurred between November 24, 2022, and September 2024, in Port Louis.
