Jagai Father Released, Jagai Son Interrogated

September 2nd will forever be a date etched in the memory of the Jagai family. After spending three weeks in police custody, Superintendent of Police Ashik Jagai regained his freedom on bail this morning. The Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) did not object to this motion before the Port-Louis court.
Meanwhile, his son, Allysaheb Ashik Ameer Jagai, 25, is currently being questioned by FCC investigators. As the head of the family businesses, Nabsha Uclean Trading Ltd, EA Smart Choice Business Enterprise Ltd, and two other companies, he is being interrogated about the funding sources for several vehicles: a sedan, a 4x4 registered as JA 941, and a Suzuki Swift. These vehicles were seized by the FCC on Tuesday morning as part of the investigation. This questioning is part of ongoing inquiries into an alleged money laundering offense.
As for SP Ashik Jagai, 57, he faces three preliminary charges of "public official using his office for gratification." These offenses are said to have occurred between November 24, 2022, and September 2024 in Port-Louis.
The officer had been in custody since Wednesday, August 13, in connection with the Reward Money case. He is suspected of having recommended two suspicious payments of Reward Money, totaling Rs 24 million, with Rs 17 million related to a single case.
