Murder Suspicions Following the Disappearance of Yogeshwaree Bhunjun - Prakash, the Father: "It’s Impossible That She Left Like a Little Child"

• The Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) intensifies the search for the missing woman.

• The medical partner, the main suspect: "I don't know anything."

Missing for two weeks, Yogeshwaree Bhunjun, a young mother from Plaine-des-Papayes, remains untraceable.

Her partner, Dr. Arvind Ramchurn, arrested for murder, is the primary suspect in the police investigation.

Where has Yogeshwaree Bhunjun gone? The disappearance of this young mother of two, living in Plaine-des-Papayes since February 23, has puzzled investigators. Her partner, Arvind Ramchurn, a medical professional, was arrested on Tuesday night for murder. Investigators are pursuing a criminal line of inquiry. According to initial findings, the couple's two young children were alone at home when their mother disappeared.

During his interrogation, Arvind Ramchurn denied any involvement in Yogeshwaree Bhunjun's disappearance. However, blood traces were discovered in his 4x4 vehicle. The suspect explained to investigators that it was blood from meat he had bought a few days earlier. Scientific analyses still need to confirm the origin of these traces.

As part of the investigation, the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) conducted a thorough search of a house in Vacoas on March 12, with support from the scientific police, to gather potential evidence.

In a precautionary measure recorded before his arrest, Arvind Ramchurn told the police he had visited another woman in the Vacoas area a few days prior to Yogeshwaree Bhunjun's disappearance. According to him, Yogeshwaree left the couple's home in Fond-du-Sac after an argument. Since then, he claims he has not heard from her.

However, the woman mentioned by Arvind Ramchurn was interviewed by investigators and provided a different account. She claims to have never met him during the time in question. This detail is now considered crucial by investigators, who suspect the doctor may have concealed certain information during his interrogation.

Family Confusion

In Lallmatie, at the Bhunjun home, worry and confusion have prevailed since the young woman's disappearance.

Yogeshwaree — or Deepika to her family — was an only child and never separated from her children, her relatives insist.

Prakash, 62, the young woman’s father, explains that a voluntary departure seems unlikely. "It’s impossible that she left like a little child," he states, recalling that the couple's youngest child is only eight months old.

The mother of the missing woman struggles to believe it was a simple voluntary departure. "There’s something that prevents me from believing that nothing has happened to my child," she confides.

According to her relatives, Yogeshwaree moved in with Arvind Ramchurn about thirteen years ago. Family members assert that Deepika maintained a close connection with them despite living away from the family home. She used to spend certain weekends at her parents' house in Lallmatie.

Over time, the couple's relationship has reportedly been marked by tension, say those close to them. They mention that the young woman had left the couple's home several times in the past. The family asserts that she had previously sought refuge in a shelter for women victims of domestic violence. "She was getting beaten too much," they recount. According to them, arguments were frequent, but the couple usually ended up reconciling: "Often she would leave the house, then they would make up and continue living together."
