Bérenger after his resignation from the MMM: "This departure is a heart-wrenching decision"
Paul Bérenger, Joanna Bérenger, and Chetan Baboolall submitted their resignation from the Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM) on Monday, April 13. This was revealed in a letter addressed to the party's Secretary General. A meeting took place between the three individuals at Paul Bérenger's home following the decision made by the Delegate Assembly on Saturday to support the party's continued participation in the government.
"Today, after more than fifty years of political commitment, I am compelled to withdraw from the Mauritian Militant Movement, the party I helped to establish in 1969, at a time when it was necessary to challenge the established order and pave a new way for our country. This departure is a heart-wrenching decision," Paul Bérenger wrote on his Facebook page early in the afternoon.
He also announced, "The fight continues. To this end, a new political movement will be launched with activists, Mauritian women and men who share our values and will join us in this struggle."
