MMM Resignation: Joanna Bérenger Discusses a 'Necessary' Choice

Joanna Bérenger has responded to her resignation from the MMM, describing it as a "difficult but necessary" choice. She emphasizes that she is leaving the party "with dignity," alongside Paul Bérenger and Chetan Baboolall.

She expresses that her sadness is amplified by the fact that she has "grown and developed her political awareness" within the MMM. For the former Junior Minister of the Environment, remaining in the government only makes sense if real changes are initiated and promises are kept.

"They chose to stay in government at any cost, even if there are no changes or guarantees," she stated.

She also laments the remarks made against Paul Bérenger during the delegate assembly on Saturday, April 11, calling them "hurtful towards someone who has dedicated 50 years of his life to the party." Furthermore, she believes that this meeting was held under questionable conditions.

However, she insists: "We are leaving without any regrets, but with clarity."

The decision to depart, she says, has become a culmination of an irreversible conviction, given the lack of response to the alerts raised over the past six months. She also asserts that the decisions made during the assembly do not align with the values of the MMM.

"I cannot accept that the promises made to our constituents become secondary," Joanna Bérenger adds.

As a reminder, Paul Bérenger, Joanna Bérenger, and MP Chetan Baboolall submitted their resignation letter to the MMM Secretary General on Monday.
