Belcourt on Bérenger's Resignation from the MMM: 'It’s Not a Page, But a Book That Has Closed'
"It’s not just a page or a chapter, but a book that has closed in the political history of Mauritius": this is how Patrick Belcourt reacted to the resignation of Paul Bérenger, Joanna Bérenger, and Chetan Baboolall from the Mouvement Militant Mauricien (MMM).
"Whether we like it or not, Paul Bérenger is an institution in himself. We cannot separate Paul Bérenger from the MMM, nor the MMM from Paul Bérenger. (...) I think it must be very, very difficult for him to make such a decision," said the leader of En Avant Moris.
Let us recall that Paul Bérenger, Joanna Bérenger, and Chetan Baboolall submitted their resignations from the MMM on Monday, April 13. A meeting took place between the three at Paul Bérenger's residence following the decision of the Delegate Assembly on Saturday to support the party's continuation in the government.
