Situation in Madagascar: Minister Ramful Meets Malagasy Ambassador in Mauritius

The Mauritian government is closely monitoring the evolving situation in Madagascar and reiterates its call for calm. Ritesh Ramful, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and International Trade, met with Albert Camille Vital, the Malagasy Ambassador to Mauritius, on Monday, October 13. This was highlighted in a statement released by the ministry that morning.
The statement indicates that during this meeting, the friendly bilateral relations between Mauritius and Madagascar were reviewed.
Albert Camille Vital discussed current issues and the situation on the large island with the Foreign Minister. Ritesh Ramful, for his part, reminded the Malagasy authorities of the need to continue the mediation process. The ambassador acknowledged the concerns raised by the Mauritian government, according to the statement.
It is worth noting that violent protests have been taking place in Madagascar since September 25. Generation Z is speaking out against a series of issues, including frequent water and electricity outages. Looting has also occurred.
Additionally, a private jet registered as 5R-HMR, owned by the SODIAT group, landed late at night on Sunday, October 12, at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport in Plaisance, Mauritius. On board were former Prime Minister Christian Ntsay, who was ousted a week ago, and Maminiaina Ravatomanga, known as "Mamy," a prominent businessman and close advisor to President Andry Rajoelina. This hasty departure, occurring amid growing instability, fuels speculation within the large island and further isolates the Malagasy Head of State.
