Tensions in Madagascar: President Andry Rajoelina Exfiltrated by French Military Plane According to RFI

Tensions in Madagascar: President Andry Rajoelina was exfiltrated by a French military plane on October 12, 2025, as confirmed by RFI, following an agreement with President Emmanuel Macron. This was reported in an online article by Radio France Internationale (RFI) published on Monday, October 13, 2025. However, RFI clarifies that "French authorities state they are not intervening in the Malagasy crisis."

The article points out: "Malagasy President Andry Rajoelina was exfiltrated on Sunday by a French military plane. He is no longer on national territory, and his final destination remains uncertain."

How did this exfiltration occur?

"Yesterday, a helicopter is said to have transported President Rajoelina to Sainte-Marie Island on Madagascar's east coast, from where he boarded a French military plane to Réunion, before heading to another destination with his family, possibly Mauritius or Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. One thing is certain: according to RFI sources, he is no longer in Réunion," explains RFI.

It is worth noting that President Andry Rajoelina is expected to address the nation on Monday as calls for his resignation grow among protesters opposed to the government and some factions of the military.
