Crisis in Madagascar: 41 Mauritians Already Repatriated

Crisis in Madagascar: 41 Mauritians have been repatriated since the onset of protests in Madagascar. Most of them were there on vacation, as noted by Minister of Foreign Affairs Ritesh Ramful in an interview with RadioPlus on Monday, October 13.

According to him, around a thousand Mauritian nationals are currently in the large island for professional or business reasons.

Regarding the landing of the private jet registered 5R-HMR on Mauritian soil, the minister stated that an inter-ministerial committee met this morning to review the situation. An investigation is underway.

Ritesh Ramful also met this Monday morning with the Ambassador of Madagascar to Mauritius, Albert Camille Vital. Their discussions focused on the current situation in Antananarivo.

It is worth noting that the private jet 5R-HMR, owned by the SODIAT group, landed at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport in the middle of the night. Onboard were former Malagasy Prime Minister Christian Ntsay, who was ousted a week ago, and Maminiaina Ravatomanga, known as "Mamy", a powerful businessman and close advisor to President Andry Rajoelina.

Acting Prime Minister Paul Bérenger has expressed his outrage regarding this emergency landing that occurred in the early hours of Sunday. He claimed that clear instructions from the Civil Aviation Authority were not adhered to.
