[In Pictures] Final Farewells to Kailash Purryag

On Sunday, June 22, Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam and his wife, Veena, visited the home of Kailash Purryag to pay their last respects. The former President of the Republic passed away at the age of 77.

Ministers, along with the Governor of the Bank of Mauritius, Rama Sithanen, former President Prithvirajsing Roopun, and his wife, former Speaker of the National Assembly, Maya Hanoomanjee, also came to honor him.

Kailash Purryag's funeral is scheduled for 3:30 PM. The funeral procession will leave from the home of his wife, Aneetah Purryag, located on Shamboonath Street, Castel, Camp-Fouquereaux, heading to the crematorium at Allée Brillant, Castel.

It is worth noting that before assuming the highest state office on July 21, 2012, succeeding Sir Anerood Jugnauth, Kailash Purryag had a distinguished political career. Elected for the first time in 1976, he served successively as MP, Minister, and then Speaker of the National Assembly.
