[In Pictures] Funeral of the Former President of the Republic, Kailash Purryag

[In Pictures] The funeral of former President of the Republic, Kailash Purryag, took place this afternoon. The funeral procession, accompanied by the Police Band and members of the Special Mobile Force, left the home of his wife, Aneetah Purryag, located on Shamboonath Street, Castel, Camp Fouquereaux, to proceed to the crematorium at Allée Brillant, Castel. The former president passed away the day before at the age of 77.

Before assuming the highest office in the State on July 21, 2012, succeeding Sir Anerood Jugnauth, Kailash Purryag had a distinguished political career. He was first elected in 1976 and subsequently served as a Member of Parliament, Minister, and Speaker of the National Assembly.
