[In Pictures] Kailash Purryag's Funeral: Personalities Gather

Prominent figures continue to arrive at the residence of the former President of the Republic to pay their last respects. Deputy Prime Minister Paul Bérenger, Ministers Rajesh Bhagwan and Ashok Subron, former President Cassam Uteem, as well as former Speaker and Minister Razack Peeroo, have all come to honor Kailash Purryag. The former President passed away on Saturday at the age of 77.

Kailash Purryag's funeral is scheduled for 3:30 PM. The funeral procession will leave the home of his wife, Aneetah Purryag, located at Shamboonath Street, Castel, Camp Fouquereaux, and will proceed to the crematorium at Allée Brillant, Castel.

Before assuming the highest state office on July 21, 2012, succeeding Sir Anerood Jugnauth, Kailash Purryag had a distinguished political career. First elected in 1976, he served as a Member of Parliament, Minister, and later as Speaker of the National Assembly.
