MMM Leaders Reject the Idea of Leaving the Government

The leaders of the MMM have dismissed the idea of leaving the government. Citing the stability of the country and internal democracy, both deputies and ministers from the party oppose any break, favoring the continuation of their mandate.Ram Etwareea: "There is a clear majority for the MMM to remain in government"MMM deputy Ram Etwareea expressed his views after the Central Committee meeting held at Hennessy Park Hotel in Ébène on Wednesday afternoon. According to him, the majority of MMM members expressed a wish to stay in government. This stance disrupted the meeting, as no decision could be made. He noted that this desire contradicts Paul Bérenger's views, particularly regarding the reasons put forward for a potential departure. "It's as if a divorce has been consummated but cannot be declared."Ajay Gunness: "We need to reach a decision once and for all"The Minister of National Infrastructure, Ajay Gunness, defended the party's internal workings. "MMM is a democratic party," he stated, echoing Paul Bérenger's words. He confirmed that after the political bureau meeting scheduled for Monday, a new Central Committee might be called "very likely".When questioned about discussions surrounding a potential departure of the MMM from the government, Ajay Gunness dismissed any notion of wasting time. However, he stressed the need to make a swift decision: "We need to reach a decision once and for all so that the country can regain its serenity."According to him, the ruling alliance has a five-year mandate and must continue its work to ensure the country's stability. Ajay Gunness stated that he intends to remain in government to respect the choices of party members and voters.Aadil Ameer Meea: "The country comes first"The Minister of Industry, SMEs, and Cooperatives, Aadil Ameer Meea, asserted that the discussions were open and democratic. "Every member clearly expressed their opinion," he stated. A majority of the members present voiced support for the MMM's continued presence in government. "I am reassured that the members of the Central Committee think the same way I do."Aadil Ameer Meea emphasized the need to continue working. "The country comes first," he affirmed, indicating that he is already preparing for the next Cabinet meeting scheduled for Friday or Saturday. He firmly rejected criticisms suggesting a personal interest in a ministerial position. "I have remained steadfast in opposition, I have received offers from the PTr and the MSM. I have never sold my party for a ministerial portfolio... it's total nonsense," he declared.Jyoti Jeetun: "We cannot leave when the ship is sinking"Jyoti Jeetun, Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, was emphatic: "We have a clear mandate and a commitment to our constituents and the entire population. We have a significant job to do. 'Despite what is being said, we are doing a great job.' We have a duty and loyalty to continue our work. People I do not know are calling me to tell me not to leave (the government). 'We cannot leave when the ship is sinking.' There are many urgent matters: the people and the country come first."The minister expressed her readiness for a cabinet reshuffle if the Prime Minister deems it necessary.Fawzi Allymun: "We must listen to the grassroots"Fawzi Allymun, Junior Minister of Local Authorities, supports that the strength of the MMM lies in its democratic functioning. "We had our political bureau meeting on Monday and our Central Committee this afternoon. Everyone expressed their views. It was a good debate, and as the leader said, a strong majority is calling for the party to stay in government.I believe we must listen to the grassroots. The regional committee from my constituency is asking me to remain in the government, as there is much work to do; they are also requesting that our leader continues as Deputy Prime Minister. I think we should head in that direction," he believes.Tony Apollon: "We must make concessions"Tony Apollon, deputy of Mahébourg/Plaine-Magnien, reminded everyone that it took 20 years for the MMM to win six parliamentary seats in constituencies 4 to 14. That is why he supports keeping the purple party in government."Every day, there are disagreements within the household. But that is not a reason to leave and then come back. We must make concessions. Within the MMM, it is the same," he affirmed. He praised the MMM's record within the government, highlighting the increase in security in the country. "Let’s not forget that there is nothing to criticize about the MMM ministries and some of the Labour Party. The decision of one person (Paul Bérenger) does not reflect the position of the party," he explained.
