MMM: Paul Bérenger at a Crossroads

Following the special central committee of the MMM held on Wednesday, March 18 in Ébène, its leader Paul Bérenger has decided not to rush his decision regarding a potential resignation from his position as Deputy Prime Minister. During a press conference, he confirmed that the Political Bureau would meet on Monday to continue discussions. He expressed his intention to allow members time to "digest" the information presented during the meeting.

A significant majority of the members expressed their support for keeping the MMM in the government. Paul Bérenger stated that he was not surprised by this stance, acknowledging that it reflects an internal reality of the party. If necessary, a delegates' assembly could be convened to resolve the issue through a formal vote.

When asked about possible future scenarios, the leader of the MMM mentioned the names of Reza Uteem and Ritesh Ramphul as potential candidates for the Finance portfolio, emphasizing the importance of a solid grasp of economic matters. The MMM thus enters a phase of reflection, the outcome of which will depend on upcoming internal consultations.
