MMM Political Bureau: Pro-Bérenger Supporters Voice Their Opinions on the Streets

It was a special Political Bureau meeting held at the MMM headquarters this Monday. On one hand, the absence of Paul Bérenger, the leader of the purple party, was palpable. On the other hand, some of his staunchest supporters expressed their anger.

The members of the Political Bureau (BP) arrived gradually at Ambrose Street in Rose-Hill on the afternoon of March 23rd. For those familiar with the meetings, the void left by Paul Bérenger's car, usually parked at the end of the driveway in front of the party's headquarters, was striking. As a symbol, no one parked there.

Many supporters made the trip, most dressed in purple, with some even waving flags of the same color. A large group gathered on the other side of the road, quickly revealing their support for keeping the MMM in the government alliance.

However, at 5 PM, when the BP officially started, a man dressed in purple and holding an MMM flag got out of a car with his family. He shouted: "They sold out Bérenger! He gave his life for this country! His family didn’t have time to see him, his daughter didn’t have time to see him!"

His aggressive arrival drew all eyes. Journalists quickly surrounded him for comments. Shortly after, another fervent supporter of Paul Bérenger arrived on a scooter, also vocally expressing the same sentiments. "Judas!" could be heard from the crowd.

Yet, these viewpoints were in the minority. Most supporters were there to back the MMM members who remain in the majority. "You can’t be elected to the government and then leave. It’s normal that not everyone agrees. The country needs to move forward. Problems need to be solved. But when you’re in the opposition, can you make changes? I’m in number 20, and until my last breath, I will support Rajesh Bhagwan," stated another supporter.

As the BP continued, more supporters arrived at Ambrose Street, quickly causing congestion. The police eventually managed to ease the traffic.

As the press and supporters crowded the driveway, the MMM anthem "Soldat lalit militan" could be heard. Some MMM supporters took the opportunity to shout at journalists: "You’re distorting the information!" However, after explanations from the press members, apologies were exchanged, and tensions quickly eased.

By 6:30 PM, the BP concluded. The press was invited inside. All BP members symbolically stood behind the table, united in front of the journalists. Reza Uteem took the floor.

Twenty minutes later, the BP members were cheered by their supporters. But a group of dissenters shouted "Traitor! Thief! Liars!" One of them later told journalists: "Among the 16 (MPs who remain in the majority), four are traitors and will come back to us! Four!" The police and supporters had to assist BP members in reaching their cars safely.

Calm gradually returned to Ambrose Street, but it was clear that tensions within the party would persist for some time.
