Sangeet Fowdar: "The MMM Cannot Survive Without Paul Bérenger!"

Former mauve activist Sangeet Fowdar does not hold back his words following the political upheaval triggered by Paul Bérenger's resignation on Friday, March 20. In his view, the future of the Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM) without its historic leader looks highly uncertain.

"This is not up for debate. A Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM) without Paul Bérenger has no reason to exist," he asserts. He praises the "courage" of the man who, according to him, "has given everything for the country and its people." In this crisis, he even sees a form of clarification: "What happened on Friday with the group of sixteen is a blessing. Some should have left the MMM a long time ago."

However, the positions taken by Rajesh Bhagwan do not resonate positively with the former activist. In his eyes, the MMM is now split into two opposing factions, a fracture that jeopardizes the party's stability in the long term.

He notably criticizes the rhetoric that emphasizes a shift back to the activists, which he deems inconsistent with electoral commitments. "To say they will work for the activists is to trample on the meritocracy and transparency that were at the heart of the program," he argues. For him, this direction contradicts the expectations of the population. "There are independent organizations in this country. Everything must be based on merit," he insists.

Sangeet Fowdar also warns against a strategy he considers risky: placing the blame for the crisis on the activists.
