Regional Committees: MMM Intensifies Its Meetings Across the Country
The Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM) is ramping up its regional meetings across the island as internal discussions gain momentum following the resignation of the mauve leader from his position as Deputy Prime Minister last Friday.
Yesterday in Curepipe, within Constituency No. 17 (Curepipe/Midlands), Ajay Gunness gathered activists, despite rumors suggesting the potential presence of disruptors. Ultimately, everything proceeded calmly.
At this stage, several constituencies have already held their meetings. In Constituencies Nos. 2 and 3 in Port-Louis, a clear trend seems to emerge: grassroots activists want the MMM to remain in government. In Constituency No. 20, the stronghold of Rajesh Bhagwan, a show of hands favored staying within the government.
Consultations are ongoing, with additional meetings scheduled in Constituencies Nos. 1 (Port-Louis-West/GRNO), 6 (Grand-Baie/Poudre-d’Or), 8 (Moka/Quartier-Militaire), and 19 (Stanley/Rose-Hill). However, the situation remains uncertain in Constituency No. 18 (Belle-Rose/Quatre-Bornes) due to the absence of Veda Baloomoody.
The highlight is set for tomorrow in Ébène, where the Central Committee will meet, a gathering rescheduled by one day to avoid any clash with the rally planned at the Plaza in Rose-Hill in support of Paul Bérenger.
The call to action is for full mobilization. Ram Etwareea, MP for Constituency No. 6, shares that many activists in his area believe it is crucial to remain in the government. According to him, this sentiment is echoed in several rural regions.
