Paul Bérenger: 'When a person is corrupt, they don’t give a receipt'
As he announced, former Deputy Prime Minister Paul Bérenger held a press conference on Wednesday, March 25, to explain the reasons for his resignation. Among other things, he claimed that a Labour minister had approached him for advice. "One of these people from the gang of 5 or 25 in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) brought a businessman to his office to offer him a bribe," he recounted. The reaction from the former No. 2 of the government was "mind-blowing."
Paul Bérenger stated that he discussed this with the Prime Minister. He added that initially, Navin Ramgoolam reacted sternly by reprimanding the individual involved and removing them from their position at the PMO. However, according to Paul Bérenger, this sanction was only temporary. "I don't know how many days, 15 days, 3 weeks, after that person returned to their place in the PMO and everything continued as before," he expressed his astonishment. Navin Ramgoolam's response was, "I have no proof...". "When a person is corrupt, they don’t give a receipt," Paul Bérenger stated during this press conference.
