Paul Bérenger Resigns from Government

A turning point in the Mauritian political landscape with the official announcement of Paul Bérenger's resignation from his position as Deputy Prime Minister. During a press conference on Friday, March 20, at 11 AM, the leader of the Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM) confirmed his withdrawal from the government, stating that he would submit his official resignation letter to the President of the Republic by noon.

This decision, which was communicated in advance to Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam during a phone call the day before, marks a pivotal moment for the ruling alliance. However, Paul Bérenger stated that he respects the wishes of the MMM activists who wish to remain in the government.

"My heart is broken," emphasized Paul Bérenger. He did not hold back in his criticism of certain members of his own party, labeling one or two individuals as "rotten" and claiming they have been "infected" by the "gang."

For now, Paul Bérenger retains his seat as a Member of Parliament. The leader of the Mauves indicated that he will take a few days to reflect on the future of his parliamentary engagement and his definitive position regarding his party's leadership.
