At the Heart of the News - Ajay Gunness: "We have no decision to make regarding Paul Bérenger"

On the show "At the Heart of the News" this Thursday, Ajay Gunness addressed the crisis affecting the MMM. He stated that there are no decisions on the agenda regarding the leadership of Paul Bérenger, ahead of a much-anticipated Central Committee (CC) meeting.

The internal crisis within the Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM) continues to fuel political debates. Invited to the show "At the Heart of the News" on March 26th, Ajay Gunness sought to clarify the situation within the party, particularly concerning Paul Bérenger's leadership.

When questioned by Prem Sewpaul about the possibility of challenging Paul Bérenger's leadership, Ajay Gunness was firm. "We have a CC this Friday, and we will continue our work as it should be. As far as any potential decision on Paul Bérenger's leadership is concerned, we have no decision to make," he stated. According to him, the focus will be on an activity planned by Paul Bérenger for Saturday. "The leader will have an event on Saturday, and we will discuss that, since it does not come from the party, but from a call from the leader," he added.

Addressing the current context, marked by an increase in regional meetings across the country, Ajay Gunness emphasized the support from the grassroots activists. "We have a series of regional meetings that started on Wednesday and will end this Friday. We have the support of our regional members," he affirmed.

However, he did express some reservations regarding how recent events have been handled by the party's leader. Referring to Paul Bérenger's statements about allegations of corruption, Ajay Gunness suggested that institutional avenues should be prioritized. "We understand the reasons that led the leader to resign as Deputy Prime Minister. But if he has evidence regarding acts of corruption, there are channels for that. As a patriot, he should turn to those channels to report it," he maintained.

In a context where numerous rumors are circulating within the MMM, Ajay Gunness attempted to be reassuring. He emphasized that the situation should become clearer following the CC meeting this Friday in Ébène. This meeting is seen as a key step in defining the party's future direction.
