Reza Uteem on Paul Bérenger's Absence: "The Heart is Broken, But We Must Know Who is Breaking It"
"The heart is broken, but we must know who is breaking it." This is how Reza Uteem summarizes the mood within the MMM following Paul Bérenger's recent absence from party activities. "We still have a parliament with a leader named Paul Bérenger. His absence is regrettable, but it shows the respect he has for MMM's current institutions," he stated.
According to him, this Friday was a crucial moment for the leader to come and convince the central committee about the need to either stay in or leave the government before the vote on Aadil Ameer Meea's motion. "Last time, he told us to reflect, and we would meet in the political bureau. But before that, he resigned," Reza Uteem recalled, emphasizing that as long as the question of leadership remains unresolved, the party remains weakened.
Ajay Guness, for his part, reminded that while Paul Bérenger was unwell, the MMM continued to operate collegially. However, today, if Paul chooses to sit in the parliamentary opposition, he would find himself alongside Adrien Duval and Joe Lesjongard, which would make his continued membership in the MMM incompatible.
"He has completely disregarded the institutions. I have one thing to say: the heart is broken, but we must know who is breaking it," he concluded.
